BJP Moves MLAs To Paradip Resort To Secure Rajya Sabha Votes
BJP shifts MLAs to Paradip resort ahead of RS polls.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has shifted several of its legislators to a resort in Paradip ahead of the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, a move seen as an attempt to prevent cross-voting and ensure party unity during the crucial polling process. Party leaders said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure as political parties across states often adopt such strategies to keep their lawmakers together before key votes.
According to party sources, BJP MLAs from Odisha were transported to the coastal town of Paradip and accommodated at a private resort where they will remain until the voting for the Rajya Sabha seats takes place. The relocation is intended to minimise the possibility of last-minute political manoeuvres or attempts by rival parties to influence lawmakers.
Senior BJP leaders reportedly held meetings with the legislators after their arrival, discussing the party’s strategy for the polls and emphasising the importance of maintaining discipline during the voting process. The party leadership has also instructed MLAs to remain in constant communication with the central leadership as preparations intensify ahead of the election.

Such “resort politics” has become a common feature in Indian electoral contests, particularly when legislative votes are closely contested. Political parties often move their lawmakers to secure locations to prevent defections or cross-voting, which could alter the outcome of elections to legislative bodies like the Rajya Sabha.
The Rajya Sabha polls are conducted through an indirect election process in which members of state legislative assemblies vote to elect representatives to the Upper House of Parliament. With the numbers in the assembly playing a critical role in determining the results, parties are keen to ensure that their MLAs vote strictly along party lines.
The BJP’s decision to move its legislators to a resort underscores the high political stakes surrounding the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Odisha. Party leaders remain confident of securing the required support but say the precautionary step is aimed at maintaining unity within the legislative party until the voting process is completed.
