BJP MLA Golu Shukla’s Son Marries in Indore With Extravagant Decor, High-Profile Guests
Anjanesh Shukla, son of BJP MLA Golu Shukla, wows social media with Rs 70 lakh fireworks, temple varmala, and grand wedding decor in Indore.
The wedding of Anjanesh Shukla, son of BJP MLA from the Indore-3 constituency Golu Shukla (Rakesh Shukla), has gone viral on social media for its lavish scale, featuring elaborate religious-themed decor and a fireworks display reportedly costing Rs 70 lakh. Videos shared online, including by family members, show the venue adorned with idols of Hindu deities, including a prominent Lord Shiva statue on the main stage where the varmala (garland exchange) ceremony took place. The groom wore a heavily embroidered sherwani, while the bride, Simran (also referred to as Simar Ghumman in some posts), donned traditional attire.
A major point of controversy emerged from footage showing the couple exchanging garlands inside the garbhagriha (sanctum sanctorum) of Indore's famous Khajrana Ganesh Temple, an area restricted to the public since the COVID-19 period. Netizens questioned the special access granted, perceiving it as VIP privilege, especially given past incidents involving the MLA's family at other temples.
The extravagant fireworks display, illuminating the night sky post-varmala, became a focal highlight in viral clips, drawing both admiration and criticism. Social media reactions accused the family of misusing public funds, with comments claiming the Rs 70 lakh expenditure came from "taxpayers' money" and calling for income tax scrutiny.

High-profile guests, including leaders from BJP and Congress, attended the multi-day celebrations held in December 2025, blessing the couple amid large gatherings. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav was among those who visited to offer congratulations.
The Shukla family has not responded to the online allegations or questions over expenses and temple access. The videos, widely circulated on platforms like X and Instagram, have sparked debates on political extravagance and equality before religious sites. As clips continue to trend, the event underscores the intersection of politics, wealth display, and public scrutiny in Indian weddings involving prominent figures.
