BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul Alleges Third Attack, Wore Helmet During Bengal Polling

Agnimitra Paul claims repeated attacks, wears helmet while voting amid tense Bengal polls.

Agnimitra Paul, a Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from West Bengal, alleged that she was attacked for the third time during polling, prompting her to wear a helmet as a precaution while casting her vote. Paul, who represents the Asansol South constituency, claimed that she faced repeated threats and violence linked to the ongoing electoral process in the state. According to her, the decision to wear protective headgear on polling day was driven by concerns for her personal safety following earlier incidents of alleged attacks.

The BJP leader accused workers of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of being behind the violence, alleging that opposition candidates and their supporters were being targeted to influence the electoral process. She stated that such incidents undermine democratic norms and create an atmosphere of fear among voters and political workers.

Visuals of Paul wearing a helmet at a polling booth quickly circulated on social media, drawing attention to the tense political climate in parts of West Bengal during elections. The imagery has been used by the BJP to highlight concerns over law and order, particularly during high-stakes polling phases.

However, leaders from the TMC have rejected the allegations, accusing the BJP of exaggerating claims of violence for political mileage. The party has maintained that elections in the state are being conducted under the supervision of the Election Commission, with adequate security arrangements in place.

The developments come amid heightened political tensions in West Bengal, where elections have often been marked by clashes between rival party workers. Authorities have yet to issue a detailed statement on the specific allegations made by Paul, even as polling continues under tight security across sensitive constituencies.
