BJP Leaders Seek Case Against Bhagwant Mann Over Punjab Blasts Comment
BJP seeks case against Bhagwant Mann over blasts remarks.
Tensions escalated in Punjab’s political landscape after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders demanded legal action against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over his remarks allegedly linking the party to recent explosions in the state. The BJP accused Mann of making “false, inflammatory and defamatory” statements during a public address, intensifying an already charged political environment.
A BJP delegation led by Punjab state president Sunil Jakhar visited the office of the Director General of Police (DGP) in Chandigarh on Thursday to lodge a formal complaint. According to party leaders, DGP Gaurav Yadav was not present at the time, and the delegation instead met Special DGP AS Rai to submit their grievance.
In their complaint, the BJP alleged that Chief Minister Mann had, during his Wednesday address, linked the twin explosions near the BSF Frontier Headquarters in Jalandhar and an Army camp in Amritsar to the BJP. The party claimed these statements were “baseless and unsubstantiated” and risked aggravating public sentiment in a sensitive border state.

The BJP further argued that such remarks could interfere with ongoing investigations and potentially mislead the public by attributing motives without official confirmation. It also alleged that the statements had the capacity to disturb communal harmony and create fear and insecurity among citizens.
Additionally, the complaint accused Mann of suggesting possible links between the security incidents and acts of religious desecration, which the BJP claimed could further inflame communal tensions. The party said such assertions were irresponsible given the sensitive nature of the incidents and the ongoing probe.
The BJP delegation has sought registration of an FIR against the chief minister under provisions related to promoting enmity between groups, public mischief, criminal defamation, and acts prejudicial to national integration. The demand comes amid heightened political friction in Punjab, with both security concerns and governance narratives increasingly dominating the discourse.
