BJP Issues Strict Warning on Caste-Specific Meetings in Uttar Pradesh
UP BJP chief warns lawmakers against caste-based gatherings.
In a firm directive aimed at maintaining party discipline, newly appointed Uttar Pradesh BJP president Pankaj Chaudhury issued a strong warning to party lawmakers against organizing or participating in caste-based gatherings, describing such activities as contrary to the core principles and constitution of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The statement, released late Thursday night, emphasized that any future indulgence in similar events would be treated as an act of indiscipline, potentially inviting strict action. This move reflects the leadership's determination to uphold the party's ideology of unity and inclusivity over sectional interests.
The caution followed a recent dinner meeting in Lucknow attended by several BJP MLAs and MLCs from the Brahmin community, hosted at the residence of Kushinagar MLA P N Pathak on Tuesday. Sources indicated that the gathering involved discussions on perceived marginalization of Brahmin leaders within the party structure, raising concerns about internal dynamics. The state leadership promptly took note of the event, labeling it as inconsistent with the organization's values and constitutional framework.
Political observers noted that the meeting stirred considerable debate, with opposition parties seizing the opportunity to highlight alleged fissures within the ruling BJP. Comparisons were drawn to a prior informal assembly of Kshatriya community lawmakers during the Monsoon Session, suggesting a pattern of caste-specific deliberations among party representatives. While attendees like Menhdawal MLA Anil Tripathi acknowledged discussions on social and political issues, including broader societal treatment of the Brahmin community, they maintained that the focus remained on constituency development and ongoing administrative drives such as the Special Intensive Revision.

Chaudhury, in his detailed statement, reiterated the BJP's commitment to principle-driven politics that transcends family or caste-based considerations. He disclosed having personally engaged with the concerned public representatives to convey the inappropriateness of such gatherings, urging them to exercise caution moving forward. The leadership stressed that these events risk sending misleading signals to the public, potentially undermining the party's image as a cohesive national force.
The warning underscores a proactive stance by the Uttar Pradesh unit to preempt any divisions along caste lines, especially ahead of key political milestones. By classifying future violations as indiscipline, the party aims to reinforce internal unity and align all activities with its foundational ethos. This development is likely to influence how elected representatives navigate community interactions while balancing party loyalty and local constituencies.
