BJP Hits Out at Lalu Yadav’s Family with ‘Patriarchal, Anti-Woman Mentality’ Attack
BJP attacks the Lalu Yadav family after Rohini Acharya alleges harassment and blames them for election fallout.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a blistering attack on Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family, branding their internal dynamics as a manifestation of "patriarchal and anti-woman mentality" following daughter Rohini Acharya's explosive decision to quit politics and sever ties with the family on November 15, 2025. Coming a day after the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan's humiliating defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections—securing just 25 seats against the NDA's commanding 202—the outburst has provided ammunition for the ruling coalition to question the opposition's moral authority to govern. BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya led the charge on social media, alleging that despite Acharya's life-saving kidney donation to her father in 2022, she was systematically sidelined in favour of brother Tejashwi Yadav's ambitions, quipping that those "who couldn't run their own families were dreaming of running Bihar."
Acharya's allegations painted a picture of deep-seated family and party discord, accusing senior RJD leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Yadav—along with Rameez Nemat Khan, a close aide to Tejashwi—of holding her accountable for the electoral rout and subjecting her to harassment, including "filthy abuses", threats of violence with a raised slipper, and a vicious claim that she bought an election ticket in exchange for a "dirty kidney". The 46-year-old doctor, who relocated from Singapore to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Saran (losing to BJP's Rajiv Pratap Rudy by over 13,000 votes), had already signalled estrangement by unfollowing family and party accounts on X months earlier. Her departure to Singapore post-announcement amplified the rift, echoing her brother Tej Pratap Yadav's expulsion from the RJD and family in May 2025 over a personal scandal, further eroding the Yadav dynasty's cohesion.
Bihar BJP president Dilip Jaiswal struck a more measured yet pointed tone, urging Lalu and wife Rabri Devi to intervene and "save this family from falling apart", emphasising that it was "not right" for one individual to fracture familial bonds—implicitly targeting Sanjay Yadav's influence. "Rohini Acharya donated her kidney to save Lalu Yadav’s life. Today, she is facing this," Jaiswal remarked, expressing regret over the public humiliation of a daughter who embodied sacrifice. BJP MP Manoj Tiwari echoed the sentiment, linking the feud to the "jungle raj" mentality of Lalu's past regimes, while MLA Sanjiv Chaurasiya noted that "family feuds are beginning to surface," underscoring the RJD's vulnerability at a time when introspection is crucial post-defeat. JD(U) leaders and NDA allies joined the fray, with MLC Khalid Anwar questioning Acharya's entry into politics as a "Lalu Yadav ji's daughter" privilege, and spokesperson Sanjay Jha likening the drama to a "Mahabharat" within the household.

This political theatre unfolds against Bihar's polarised landscape, where the NDA's landslide has not only consolidated power but also exposed the Mahagathbandhan's fractures, including simmering resentments over ticket distribution and Sanjay Yadav's alleged overreach. As Lalu, aged 82 and grappling with health issues, witnesses his legacy unravel publicly—reminiscent of historical dynastic battles—the BJP's jibes risk deepening the RJD's isolation ahead of future confrontations. With Tejashwi under pressure to unify remnants, Acharya's exit serves as a stark reminder that personal vendettas can eclipse electoral setbacks, potentially reshaping Bihar's opposition narrative for years to come.
