BJP Forms New 34-Member West Bengal Committee Before Key Assembly Elections
BJP announces 34-member new West Bengal state committee ahead of assembly polls.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday unveiled its new 34-member state committee for West Bengal, signaling a strategic push ahead of the Assembly elections later this year. The announcement comes under the leadership of Samik Bhattacharya, elected as the State Party President last year.
The new committee comprises 12 vice-presidents, five general secretaries, 12 secretaries, one treasurer, two joint treasurers, one office secretary, and one joint office secretary. Alongside, the party also named the heads of three affiliated Morchas (mass organisations) to bolster outreach in the state.
Prominent among the vice-presidents are former Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nishith Pramanik, Legislator and Fashion Designer Agnimitra Paul, Lok Sabha Member Manoj Tigga, Legislator Dipak Burman, and Journalist-turned-politician Jagannath Chattopadhyay. These leaders are expected to drive organizational and electoral strategy for the party.

The five general secretaries include Lok Sabha MPs Saumitra Khan and Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato, and former MP and Actress-turned-politician Locket Chatterjee. Shankar Ghosh, BJP’s Chief Whip in the West Bengal Assembly, has been named as one of the secretaries, highlighting the mix of legislative and organizational experience in the new team.
The Morcha heads include Khagen Murmu for the Scheduled Tribe Morcha, Dr. Indranil Khan for the Youth Morcha, Falguni Patra for the Women’s Morcha, and Ali Hossain for the Minority Morcha. Party insiders said these appointments aim to strengthen mass outreach and mobilization ahead of the polls.
According to committee sources, the composition balances experienced BJP leaders with newer entrants and public representatives, while most members will focus on organizational activities rather than directly contesting elections. Union Minister and Party President J.P. Nadda is expected to chair a critical meeting of the new state committee on Thursday to outline the party’s poll strategy.
