BJP Chief Ends Three-Day Punjab Visit With Meeting In Ludhiana
BJP chief ends Punjab visit after meeting agricultural economist SS Johl.
Nitin Nabin concluded a three-day visit to Punjab on Monday after meeting noted agricultural economist and Padma Bhushan awardee Sardara Singh Johl in Ludhiana, where discussions focused on agriculture, crop diversification and the state’s rural economy. The meeting formed part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s broader outreach to key stakeholders in Punjab’s agrarian sector.
During the interaction at Johl’s residence, Nabin was accompanied by Punjab BJP leaders including state president Kewal Singh Dhillon and general secretary Anil Sarin. According to party statements, the discussion covered structural issues in Punjab’s agricultural system, challenges faced by farmers, and potential strategies for promoting crop diversification to ensure long-term sustainability in the sector.
In a post on social media platform X, Nabin described Johl as one of India’s leading agricultural economists and highlighted his contributions to agricultural policy, including his tenure as Vice-Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University and his role in shaping recommendations on agricultural costs and pricing frameworks. He said the exchange offered valuable insights into the state’s farming ecosystem.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Nabin said the visit was part of a wider outreach initiative aimed at highlighting the central government’s agricultural policies over the past 12 years. He emphasised the importance of engaging with experts and institutions that have long been associated with agricultural reform and farmer welfare in the country.
Earlier in the day, the BJP national president also held a high-level meeting in Ludhiana with senior party leaders, including Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu, Rajya Sabha members Tarun Chugh, Rajinder Gupta and Raghav Chadha, along with other prominent state leaders. The discussions reportedly focused on the party’s organisational strategy and political roadmap ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
Party sources indicated that the meetings are part of preparations for a full-scale contest in all 117 Assembly seats in Punjab following the BJP’s organisational realignment in the state. The visit was seen as significant in shaping the party’s future strategy, although Nabin reportedly curtailed his tour and returned to Delhi amid speculation of internal organisational changes at the national level.
Political observers view the engagement with agricultural experts and senior leaders as part of the BJP’s effort to strengthen its presence in Punjab’s politically sensitive agrarian landscape, where farmer issues continue to play a central role in electoral dynamics.
