BJP Asks Uddhav to Cancel Rally, Help Marathwada Flood Victims

BJP urges Uddhav to redirect rally funds to flood victims.

Maharashtra BJP chief spokesperson Keshav Upadhye has called on Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray to cancel his party’s annual Dussehra rally and redirect the funds to aid flood victims in Marathwada. The region, typically drought-prone, has been devastated by unprecedented heavy rains and flooding, leaving countless residents grappling with loss and destruction.

Upadhye, in a scathing post on X, accused Thackeray of inaction during his tenure as chief minister, claiming he “failed to act and remained at home” when crises struck. “Marathwada is in distress, with people having lost everything. Thackeray’s recent three-hour tour of five flood-hit districts and expressions of sympathy are not enough. Cancel the Dussehra rally scheduled for October 2 at Shivaji Park and use the funds to help those in need. This would give real meaning to his concern,” Upadhye stated.

The Dussehra rally, a long-standing tradition for Shiv Sena, has historically been a platform for ideological guidance under founder Bal Thackeray. However, Upadhye criticized its current state, alleging it has devolved into “theatrics” where Uddhav repeatedly labels opponents as traitors and laments his party’s internal splits. “Why burden ordinary workers with lakhs of rupees for a repetitive script that echoes daily in Saamana?” he questioned, referring to the Sena (UBT) mouthpiece.

Thackeray’s recent visit to Marathwada’s flood-affected districts, where he met victims and listened to their grievances, was acknowledged but deemed insufficient by the BJP leader. Upadhye urged Thackeray to “atone” for past inaction by prioritizing flood relief over political events. “Canceling the rally and diverting its funds would show genuine care for the people of Maharashtra,” he emphasized.

As the state braces for further challenges, the BJP’s demand has sparked a heated debate, with many watching to see how Thackeray responds to this call for action amid Marathwada’s ongoing crisis.
