BJP Alleges Internal Rift In Karnataka Congress, Predicts Possible Early Elections

Karnataka BJP alleges internal Congress rift and predicts possible early fall of government.

The political situation in Karnataka has intensified after the resignation of Water Resources Minister Ramalinga Reddy, with the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launching a sharp attack on the ruling Congress government. The BJP alleged that the administration is being driven by internal power struggles rather than governance priorities, and claimed that growing factionalism could lead to instability in the state.

State BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra accused the Congress leadership of being consumed by what he described as a “lust for power,” suggesting that internal disputes over ministerial posts and portfolios have replaced earlier disagreements over the Chief Minister’s position. He argued that the same leaders who once competed for top political roles are now engaged in conflicts over cabinet allocations and influential departments.

Referring to Ramalinga Reddy’s resignation, Vijayendra said the development reflects deeper divisions within the ruling party. He alleged that dissatisfaction over the allocation of portfolios, particularly the Bengaluru Development-related responsibilities, has exposed cracks in the cabinet and signalled continuing political uncertainty.

The BJP leader further claimed that the government is “mired in corruption, power struggles, and competition for influential posts,” and predicted the possibility of an early collapse of the administration. He also suggested that the ongoing tensions could even lead to mid-term elections in Karnataka, depending on how the internal situation unfolds.

Separately, senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka criticised the Congress party for what he described as hypocrisy in its approach to social justice and governance. He alleged that while Congress leaders often speak about the ideals of social reformers such as Basavanna and Dr B.R. Ambedkar, their actions in cabinet portfolio distribution reflect a focus on powerful and influential ministries rather than welfare-oriented departments.

Ashoka also raised concerns over representation and governance priorities, stating that women are not adequately represented in the state cabinet. He urged the government to shift its focus towards public welfare, particularly during the agricultural season, and called on the leadership to prioritise support for farmers and rural communities instead of internal political disputes.
