#BiharResults: Nitish Kumar Set for Historic Fifth Term as NDA Dominates Bihar Polls
NDA leads in 197seats, Mahagathbandhan just 40.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is surging toward a decisive victory in the Bihar Assembly elections, securing leads in 197 of the 243 seats and positioning Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for an unprecedented fifth consecutive term. The veteran leader, who has dominated Bihar politics longer than any other chief minister in the state’s history, has guided the JD(U)-BJP coalition to a performance that dwarfs its 2020 tally of 122 seats.
The opposition Mahagathbandhan has suffered a near-total collapse, managing leads in only 40 constituencies—a sharp decline from its previous strength. Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party, launched with high expectations and aggressive anti-incumbency rhetoric, failed to secure even a single seat, marking a humiliating debut for the poll strategist.
In a lone bright spot for the opposition, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav holds a narrow lead in his family stronghold of Raghopur. Other prominent candidates under scrutiny include Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, JJD’s Tej Pratap, and Bihar Congress president Rajesh Kumar, whose fates remain tied to the broader NDA wave.
Vote counting commenced at 8 AM across 55 centres following a record 67.13% voter turnout in the two-phase elections held on November 6 and 11. Most exit polls had forecasted a dominant NDA win, a prediction Tejashwi Yadav had dismissed as unreliable—only to see his alliance overwhelmed as results streamed in.
With the NDA’s commanding majority, Bihar has reaffirmed its confidence in Nitish Kumar’s governance, leaving the Mahagathbandhan in disarray and signaling a complete rejection of opposition narratives in one of India’s most politically charged states.
