#BiharPolls: Prashant Kishor Promises to End Bihar’s Migration Crisis if Jan Suraaj Comes to Power

Prashant Kishor promises abundant local jobs in Bihar, pledging voters won’t have to leave for employment.

Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor vowed on Saturday to end Bihar’s chronic migration crisis, promising that a vote for his party in the upcoming assembly elections would ensure no resident ever leaves the state for work again. Addressing a rally in Sitamarhi—the symbolic birthplace of Jan Suraaj—Kishor declared, “If you vote for Jan Suraaj, all those who have come home for Chhath will never go outside Bihar for employment.” He positioned his party as the vehicle for a “people’s government” that prioritises local job creation over out-of-state opportunities, directly challenging the ruling NDA and opposition Mahagathbandhan.

Kishor sharply criticised the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government, accusing it of neglecting Bihar’s youth while infrastructure projects flourish elsewhere. “A bullet train worth Rs 1 lakh crore is being built in Gujarat, whereas the youth of Bihar are struggling to get a seat in the train to come home for Chhath,” he said, highlighting the disparity in development focus. The former political strategist, who launched Jan Suraaj 3.5 years ago, framed the election as a referendum on ending “political bonded labour”, where voters oscillate between the BJP and Lalu Prasad’s RJD out of fear rather than conviction.

In a strategic consolidation, independent candidate Anup Kumar Srivastava from Gopalganj officially joined Jan Suraaj on Friday in Kishor’s presence. The move followed the withdrawal of Jan Suraaj’s original nominee, Shashi Shekhar Sinha, from the same constituency, allowing the party to back Srivastava. Jan Suraaj is contesting all 243 seats independently, positioning itself as a third force against the NDA—which includes the BJP, JDU, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha, and Rashtriya Lok Morcha—and the Mahagathbandhan led by the RJD alongside Congress, CPI-ML, CPI, CPM, and VIP.

With polling set for November 6 and 11 and results on November 14, Kishor’s campaign is intensifying its focus on employment, education, and agricultural reform—issues that resonate deeply in a state where millions migrate seasonally for work. His rhetoric taps into widespread frustration over unfulfilled promises by successive governments, though analysts question whether Jan Suraaj’s organisational depth and funding can translate public sentiment into seats. As the election enters its final phase, Kishor’s pledge to keep Biharis at home has emerged as a central rallying cry for his fledgling party.
