#BiharRally: PM Modi Says Congress, RJD Divided State Along Caste and Communal Lines

At a Bihar rally, PM Modi accuses Congress and RJD of dividing the state and insulting the Chhath festival.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday unleashed a blistering attack on the Congress and RJD at a massive election rally here, declaring that the Congress can never erase the “permanent stain” of the 1989 Bhagalpur communal massacre that claimed over 1,000 lives, mostly Muslims, drawing a parallel with the party’s role in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Addressing thousands waving saffron flags Modi accused both parties of systematically dividing Bihar along caste and communal lines for decades, pushing the state into darkness and forcing its youth to migrate for jobs.

“The RJD gave Bihar caste riots, and Congress gave communal riots. The blood of innocents killed in Bhagalpur will forever haunt the Congress, just like the massacre of Sikhs in Delhi,” Modi thundered, reminding the crowd how the then Congress-backed Jagannath Mishra government allegedly shielded perpetrators while bodies floated down the Ganga. He contrasted this with NDA’s development agenda, promising that Bihar’s youth will no longer need to leave home for employment under a third consecutive NDA term.

Modi also trained his guns on the fragile INDIA alliance, mocking the absence of Congress leaders on RJD posters and vice versa. “They practice untouchability even within their own alliance—RJD rallies have no Congress faces, and Congress rallies never mention Tejashwi. They are scared of each other’s shadow,” he said, adding that Congress remains silent even when RJD leaders make controversial announcements. Earlier in Araria, he accused a Congress functionary of calling Chhath Puja “drama”, calling it an unforgivable insult to Bihar’s mothers and sisters who observe the rigorous four-day fast.

With phase-two polling in Bhagalpur and Araria scheduled for November 11, Modi hailed the record turnout in Wednesday’s first phase as a resounding vote for NDA’s third term. “Long queues since morning, women and youth voting in unprecedented numbers—this is Bihar’s answer to jungle raj,” he declared, urging voters to ensure NDA crosses 225 seats on November 23 counting day to complete the journey from “Bihar to Vikas.” The high-voltage rally, attended by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Union Minister Chirag Paswan, has set the tone for a fiercely polarised final lap in one of India’s most crucial state battles.
