#BiharPolls: 60.4% Voter Turnout Till 3 PM in Final Phase
High voter turnout marks the final phase of Bihar Assembly polls as security tightens across 20 districts.
The second and final phase of the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 witnessed strong voter participation, with 60.40 percent turnout recorded across 122 constituencies by 3 pm on Tuesday. Polling, which began at 7 am, will continue until 5 pm across 20 districts. This decisive phase is being closely watched as 12 ministers from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s cabinet are contesting, setting the stage for a high-stakes outcome that could shape the state’s political landscape.
The Election Commission reported steady voting since morning despite sporadic incidents of tension in a few constituencies. Officials said women and first-time voters turned out in large numbers, contributing significantly to the growing voter participation. Early trends suggest that rural districts such as Madhubani, Sitamarhi, and Supaul have reported above-average turnout, reflecting widespread electoral enthusiasm.
To ensure smooth polling, the Bihar Police have sealed the 700-kilometre international border with Nepal for 72 hours, a preventive measure aimed at curbing potential cross-border movement and interference. Director General of Police Vinay Kumar confirmed that intensive surveillance has been deployed in seven border districts where voting is underway. The move follows heightened security alerts triggered by the recent blast incident in New Delhi.

Over 1.4 lakh security personnel, including central paramilitary forces, have been stationed at polling booths and sensitive zones. Drones and CCTV networks are also being used to monitor crowd movements and election-related activities. According to the Election Commission, each polling station has been equipped with updated logistical support to ensure a peaceful and transparent voting exercise.
As voting continues, political observers note that this phase will be crucial for both the Janata Dal (United)-BJP alliance and the opposition coalition led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal. With several heavyweight candidates in the fray, the results of this final phase will determine whether Chief Minister Nitish Kumar can sustain his hold over Bihar’s power corridors as his government faces its biggest electoral test yet.
