Bhagwant Mann's Cousin Joins BJP With Three Other Senior AAP Leaders

The Punjab CM's cousin Gyan Singh Mann joins the BJP along with three leaders.

In a significant political development in Punjab, Gyan Singh Mann, cousin of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday along with several other prominent individuals. The move is being viewed as a setback for the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in the state amid intensifying political tensions between the BJP and the Punjab government. The induction ceremony was held during a joint press conference attended by senior BJP leaders.

Along with Gyan Singh Mann, Barnala-based businessman and non-resident Indian Baljinder Singh Barnala also joined the BJP. Former personal assistant to Jalalabad MLA Goldy Kamboj, Manjinder Singh Sajan Khera, was among the other leaders inducted into the party. Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar formally welcomed the new entrants into the BJP fold and said they had initially supported the Aam Aadmi Party with hopes for political change and development but had become disillusioned after those expectations were not fulfilled.

Addressing the media alongside Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Sunil Jakhar launched a sharp attack on the Punjab government over recent incidents involving alleged attacks on BJP offices and workers in multiple cities, including Amritsar, Batala, Tarn Taran, and Ludhiana. Jakhar condemned the incidents and warned that those responsible would eventually be held accountable. He also issued a stern message to police and administrative officials, reminding them that they were accountable to the people and the law rather than to any political organisation.

Jakhar further alleged that certain officials were misusing their positions under political pressure and warned that action would be taken against anyone found violating legal responsibilities. He said government officers are paid from the state treasury and must function impartially according to constitutional and legal norms. The BJP leader’s remarks come amid escalating political confrontation in Punjab, where opposition parties have accused each other of intimidation, misuse of power, and politically motivated actions ahead of future electoral battles in the state.

During the press conference, Jakhar also targeted Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann, stating that attacks on BJP offices or workers would not prevent investigations by central agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation. He asserted that cases involving alleged corruption would continue to be investigated irrespective of political pressure and claimed that all individuals involved in financial irregularities would eventually face accountability under the law.

The political development is expected to intensify speculation regarding shifting loyalties and emerging alliances within Punjab politics. While the BJP has been working to expand its organisational presence in the state, the induction of figures linked to the ruling party could strengthen its narrative ahead of future elections. Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party is likely to face increased scrutiny from opposition parties over governance, internal dissent, and allegations of political hostility as the political climate in Punjab continues to grow increasingly confrontational.
