An Air India flight from Bengaluru to London Heathrow was diverted to Jeddah on Monday after experiencing a technical issue mid-air, airline officials confirmed. The Boeing 787-8 aircraft had been in flight for over six hours before the precautionary diversion was initiated.
In a statement, an Air India spokesperson said the diversion was a safety measure, and the plane landed safely at Jeddah Airport at 19:58 IST. “All passengers and crew are confirmed safe. The aircraft is currently undergoing comprehensive technical inspections in accordance with established safety protocols,” the spokesperson added.
The airline did not specify the number of passengers onboard, but assured that it is coordinating closely with local airport authorities and agencies to provide necessary assistance. The spokesperson emphasized that passenger safety remained the top priority throughout the incident.

Flight tracking data from Flightradar24.com confirmed that the aircraft had been airborne for more than six hours before making the unscheduled landing in Saudi Arabia. Officials noted that such en-route diversions are standard procedure when any technical irregularity is suspected.
Air India stated that the technical team would carry out a thorough inspection of the aircraft before resuming its journey to London, adhering to strict aviation safety protocols. Passengers are expected to be accommodated for onward travel once the aircraft is cleared.
