Bengal Elections Will Be Remembered Forever, Says PM Modi on BJP's Historic Win

PM Modi says Bengal elections will be remembered forever after BJP's historic victory.

Narendra Modi on Monday said the 2026 Assembly elections in West Bengal would be “remembered forever,” as early counting trends pointed to a decisive victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state. In his first public reaction, the Prime Minister described the outcome as a triumph of “people’s power” and good governance.

Taking to social media, Modi declared that “the lotus blooms in West Bengal,” referencing the BJP’s party symbol. He said the electoral mandate reflected the will of the people and signalled a shift in the state’s political landscape. The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to voters, stating that he bows to every citizen of Bengal for placing their trust in the party.

Calling the result “spectacular,” Modi assured that the BJP would work towards fulfilling the aspirations of the people of the state. He said the party’s governance approach would focus on ensuring opportunities and dignity for all sections of society, indicating a commitment to inclusive development as the BJP prepares to assume power in the region.

The Prime Minister also credited party workers for the historic performance, highlighting their sustained efforts over the years. He acknowledged the role of grassroots workers who, he said, worked tirelessly despite challenges to promote the party’s development agenda and connect with voters across the state.

As per trends available by early evening, the BJP was leading in over 200 seats in the 294-member Assembly, a significant jump from its tally of 77 seats in the 2021 elections. The outcome marks the first time the party is set to form a government in West Bengal, ending the long-standing rule of the Trinamool Congress.

The defeat of the incumbent government led by Mamata Banerjee signals a major political transition in the state after three consecutive terms in power. The results are expected to have wide-ranging implications for governance, development priorities, and the broader political dynamics in eastern India.
