Banerjee Urges Anti-BJP Forces To Unite, Protect Democracy Amid Voter List Controversy
Mamata Banerjee credits SC for 1st supplementary voter list in West Bengal, criticises ECI’s delayed midnight publication.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday claimed that the publication of the first supplementary voters’ list would not have occurred if she had not approached the Supreme Court of India. Speaking to the media outside Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, Banerjee criticised the Election Commission of India for releasing the list at midnight on Monday.
Banerjee questioned the timing of the release, suggesting a possible political conspiracy. She said printed copies of the list have not yet been displayed at election booths and stressed that the inclusion of certain names in the list was a direct result of her intervention in the Supreme Court. “Why was the first supplementary list published at midnight? There is surely some political conspiracy behind this,” she said.
The Chief Minister accused the Commission of delaying the publication despite judicial officers completing their work on time. “The judicial officers involved in the process of judicial adjudication completed their work in time. It was the Commission who took five to six days more to publish the list on Monday midnight,” she added.

Banerjee also called for unity among anti-Bharatiya Janata Party forces to counter what she described as a joint plot by the BJP and the Election Commission to restrict voters’ rights. “We have to be united to ensure that the elections are conducted in a peaceful and unbiased manner,” she said, urging parties to support the common people rather than her personally.
Regarding the supplementary list itself, Banerjee noted that the full details of inclusions and deletions remain unclear. “Now, we will have to see who all have been deleted and who all have been included,” she said, highlighting ongoing concerns about transparency in the electoral process.
The remarks come ahead of the April Assembly elections in West Bengal, where voter mobilisation and electoral fairness remain key issues in a highly charged political environment.
