Assam Police Cannot Trace Pawan Khera Amid Allegations on CM Sarma’s Wife
Assam Police cannot find Pawan Khera amid passport allegation controversy.
Assam Police on Tuesday said they were unable to find Congress leader Pawan Khera at his Delhi residence and that his current whereabouts remain unknown. Authorities stated they are actively working to "trace him out" following allegations concerning Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, allegedly holding multiple foreign passports.
The police visit to Khera’s residence came after an FIR was filed by Riniki Bhuyan Sarma on Monday, addressing claims made by Congress leaders regarding her purported foreign passports. Speaking to reporters outside Khera’s residence, a police official confirmed, “We wanted to talk to Pawan Khera… We couldn’t meet him as he is not here… We found some things in his house, but I will not disclose the details… We don’t know where he is right now, but we will trace him out.”
Chief Minister Sarma dismissed Khera’s allegations, asserting that governments of all three countries mentioned in the claims had denied issuing any passports to his wife. “The Congress lies are now fully exposed. All three countries have denied the claims made by Pawan Khera,” Sarma said, reiterating that the accusations were politically motivated.

Sarma further alleged that Khera may have absconded and suggested that he could have fled to Hyderabad to avoid questioning. “Pawan Khera mere hisaab mein bhaag gya (I think Pawan Khera has absconded). He has probably run away to Hyderabad,” the Chief Minister told IANS.
The controversy follows earlier claims by Khera and other Congress leaders, including Gaurav Gogoi, regarding alleged foreign assets and links of the Chief Minister’s family, such as Dubai properties and foreign documents. These allegations have been strongly denied by Sarma and his family.
Riniki Bhuyan Sarma also rejected the accusations, calling them “baseless,” and emphasized that she has no foreign business interests or assets. The Chief Minister affirmed that the state government would pursue the matter legally and hold those spreading misinformation accountable.
