Assam Launches CM-FLIGHT To Prepare Youth For Global Job Opportunities
Assam targets 10,000 youth with foreign language and job training.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday launched the Chief Minister's Foreign Language Initiative for Global Human Talent (CM-FLIGHT), a state programme aimed at helping young people develop foreign-language skills and access employment opportunities in India and overseas. The initiative is designed to strengthen the employability of Assamese youth by combining language learning with skill development.
At the launch, Sarma highlighted the early progress of the programme, noting that 24 trainees had already cleared the JFT-Basic Japanese language examination. The Japanese-language certification is expected to help trained candidates pursue opportunities linked to companies and employers seeking workers with Japanese-language skills.
The Assam government plans to expand CM-FLIGHT to more colleges and universities across the state, with a target of training at least 10,000 young people. The programme is intended to give students and job seekers access to language training that could broaden their employment prospects beyond traditional opportunities available within the state.

Sarma pointed to the growing presence of Japanese companies in India and the demand for skilled workers in international markets as potential areas of employment for trained Assamese youth. Knowledge of foreign languages, alongside job-specific skills, could help candidates compete for opportunities with companies operating in India as well as overseas.
Under the initiative, the Education and Skill departments will work together to promote the programme in educational institutions. The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) will also contribute by providing skill-based training, with the aim of combining language proficiency with practical employment skills.
The CM-FLIGHT programme is part of Assam's broader effort to prepare young people for employment opportunities outside the state and in international markets. By expanding access to foreign-language education and vocational training, the government aims to equip more youth with skills that can support their participation in India's growing global workforce.
