Assam CM’s Explosive ‘Pakistan Link’ Attack on Gogoi
Sarma threatens NIA probe over Gogoi’s alleged Pakistan ties.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma escalated his feud with Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, accusing him of “acting on behalf of Pakistan” after Gogoi’s fiery Lok Sabha speech on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. Sarma, citing a state Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe, threatened to transfer inquiries into alleged links between Gogoi’s wife, Elizabeth Colburn, and a Pakistan-based NGO to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) later this year.
Gogoi’s speech criticized the government’s transparency on the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which killed 26, questioning military strategy and security lapses. Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP MP Dilip Saikia retaliated, alleging Gogoi’s Pakistan visits and claiming his wife was “on Pakistan’s payroll,” citing Pakistani media’s use of Gogoi’s speech to criticize PM Narendra Modi.
Sarma amplified these claims on X, stating Gogoi’s “secret trip and ties with Pakistan” and his family’s foreign citizenship make him a “disgrace to Assam.” Gogoi hit back, admitting a 2013 Pakistan visit for his wife’s climate project, before his MP tenure, and accused Shah of deflecting government failures. “I went to Pakistan before Modiji ate biryani there,” Gogoi quipped, demanding accountability.

Sarma, who once worked with Gogoi’s father, former CM Tarun Gogoi, has set September 10 to reveal “damning” evidence, alleging Colburn gathered sensitive information for foreign lobbies. Gogoi dismissed the accusations as “nonsense,” challenging Sarma to prove them or resign.
