Arijit Singh Quits Playback Singing for Politics?

Arijit Singh quits playback singing, eyes politics with own party.

Singer Arijit Singh has sent shockwaves across the music industry after announcing his decision to step away from playback singing, sparking widespread speculation about his next move. According to reports, the celebrated singer is considering a foray into politics, although no formal announcement has been made so far. Sources indicate that the idea is still at a preliminary stage.

As per an NDTV report, Arijit Singh is believed to be contemplating the launch of his own political outfit. However, he is not expected to contest the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. Instead, the singer may begin his political journey at the grassroots level, gradually building his presence in public life.

A resident of Jiaganj in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district, Arijit is reportedly laying the groundwork for a transition into politics. While discussions are underway, sources suggest that he is taking a cautious approach, keeping details of his plans under wraps and focusing on long-term preparation rather than immediate political participation.

Earlier this week, the 38-year-old singer officially announced that he would not be taking up any new playback singing assignments. In a message shared on social media, Arijit thanked his fans for their continued support and described his journey in Hindi cinema as deeply fulfilling. He clarified that he would continue working on independent music and honour existing commitments.

Arijit Singh rose to fame after his playback debut with Phir Mohabbat in 2011 and achieved nationwide recognition with Tum Hi Ho from Aashiqui 2. Over the years, he became one of India’s most versatile and celebrated voices, delivering numerous chart-topping songs across multiple languages and earning several Filmfare Awards.

Beyond cinema, Arijit has also achieved global recognition. In July last year, he surpassed international pop stars Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran to become the most-followed artist on Spotify, with over 151 million followers. As fans absorb the news of his exit from playback singing, anticipation continues to build over what could be a significant new chapter in his life.
