Andhra Pradesh CM Naidu Defends Amaravati, Questions Opposition’s Water Knowledge
CM Naidu defends Amaravati, hits back at Jagan's criticism.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu launched a sharp attack on former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for his critical remarks against Amaravati, asserting that major cities worldwide, including those of ancient civilisations, have thrived on riverbanks. Speaking informally with reporters at the TDP headquarters on Saturday, Naidu urged Jagan to study the origins of the Indus Valley civilisation, stating that true understanding of history would prevent such "false propaganda" against the capital project.
Naidu accused YSRCP leaders of confusing riverbed with river basin and spreading misinformation without grasping basic geographical facts. He firmly declared that Andhra Pradesh would never compromise on its rightful share of river water but stressed the need to avoid unnecessary conflicts with Telangana over water-sharing issues. He warned that prolonged disputes would ultimately harm the interests of people from both Telugu states.
Questioning the opposition to the proposed Polavaram-Nallamalasagar project, Naidu pointed out that Andhra Pradesh never objected to Telangana's Kaleshwaram project. He emphasised that efficient utilisation of surplus water could bring all-round prosperity to the region, urging both states to cooperate rather than confront each other on water matters.

Highlighting the success of the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme, Naidu credited it with transforming horticulture in Rayalaseema, helping Andhra Pradesh secure the top position in the country. He expressed confidence that the state could achieve global leadership in horticulture within the next decade through continued focus on water management and agricultural development.
Naidu also criticised the previous regime for halting the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme (RLIS) in 2020 due to political motives, alleging that bills worth ₹900 crore were raised despite only earthworks being completed. He reiterated the government's commitment to completing key irrigation projects efficiently and transparently for the benefit of farmers across the state.
