Andhra Pradesh Assembly Session Kicks Off, Opposition Boycotts Proceedings
Andhra Pradesh session launches massive solar initiatives.
The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly kicked off its fourth session on Thursday, buzzing with energy as all ruling NDA alliance MLAs turned up in full force, while opposition YSRCP legislators boycotted the proceedings. The session's length remains undecided, pending a decision from the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting, but early discussions already spotlighted the state's ambitious push towards renewable energy. This gathering comes at a pivotal time for Andhra Pradesh, as the government seeks to address key developmental agendas amid ongoing political tensions.
In a highlight of the session, Energy Minister G Ravi Kumar addressed the assembly, unveiling plans to install a staggering 10,000 solar power connections in every constituency under the central government's PM Surya Ghar scheme. "Out of one crore Surya Ghar connections nationwide, the Centre has allocated 20 lakh to Andhra Pradesh," Kumar announced, emphasizing the state's significant share in this nationwide green initiative. He acknowledged minor hurdles with bankers regarding the rollout but assured that these are being resolved swiftly to keep the momentum going. The minister's speech underscored the government's commitment to sustainable energy, positioning Andhra Pradesh as a frontrunner in India's solar adoption.
Kumar further detailed the Energy Department's proactive steps, including the installation of solar power units on various government buildings such as schools and hostels. "We are geared up to establish 130 MW of capacity in this manner," he stated, highlighting how these efforts will not only reduce dependency on traditional power sources but also promote environmental conservation and cost savings for public institutions. This initiative aligns with broader national goals to combat climate change and foster energy self-sufficiency, potentially benefiting millions of households and educational facilities across the state.

The absence of YSRCP members added a layer of intrigue to the session, with whispers of ongoing political discord echoing through the assembly halls. As the BAC deliberates on the agenda, expectations are high for more policy announcements that could shape Andhra Pradesh's future. With the solar push taking center stage, the session signals a proactive stance on green development, even as the state navigates its complex political landscape.
