Anbumani Ramadoss Flexes Political Muscle in Villupuram Amid PMK Feud with Father
Anbumani Ramadoss Flexes Political Muscle
In a bold move signaling a deepening rift within the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), party president Anbumani Ramadoss is set to lead a major protest in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram district on Sunday, challenging his father and party founder, Dr. S. Ramadoss, in his political stronghold.
The demonstration, near the Villupuram district collectorate, demands the implementation of the Vanniyar Reservation Act and condemns the Tamil Nadu government’s inaction. PMK spokesperson K. Balu, an Anbumani loyalist, confirmed that Anbumani will address the cadres, aiming to showcase his influence.
The protest’s location, close to Dr. Ramadoss’s hometown of Thailapuram, underscores the ongoing power struggle within the PMK, which represents the influential Vanniyar community.

Tensions escalated after Dr. Ramadoss reclaimed the party presidency in April 2025, demoting Anbumani to working president, a move Anbumani’s faction contested, citing his 2022 election as president by the party’s general council. The feud, rooted in disagreements over party appointments and alliances—particularly Anbumani’s push for a BJP alignment versus his father’s preference for Dravidian parties—has split party loyalties, with most Villupuram cadres remaining loyal to Dr. Ramadoss.
Anbumani’s recent statewide meetings have drawn significant crowds, and supporters, including Mailam MLA C.
Sivakumar, expect the protest to reflect his growing clout, despite Dr. Ramadoss’s enduring influence. With the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections looming, this public showdown could reshape the PMK’s future.
