Amit Shah’s Two-Day Assam Visit to Focus on BJP’s 2026 Poll Push

Shah will review party organization, inaugurate key projects.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrives in Assam today for a two-day visit to strengthen the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) preparations for the 2026 assembly elections, aiming for a third consecutive term. Shah’s visit begins with a crucial meeting of the newly formed 18-member state BJP core committee, followed by a dinner with party members to discuss election strategies.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the significance of the visit, stating, “The home minister takes a keen interest in Assam’s elections, and this meeting will focus on our roadmap for 2026.”

The core committee, announced with the approval of BJP national president JP Nadda, includes key figures like Sarma, Union Ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Pabitra Margherita, state BJP chief Dilip Saikia, and other prominent leaders such as Ashok Singhal, Ranoj Pegu, and former MP Rajdeep Roy. Special invitees include Northeast coordinator Sambit Patra and state in-charge Harish Dwivedi. The committee’s role is to strategize, coordinate, and mobilize grassroots workers.

On Friday, Shah will inaugurate the Brahmaputra wing of the Raj Bhavan, the National Cyber Forensic Laboratory, and projects by ITBP, SSB, and Assam Rifles. He will also address a convention of newly elected NDA panchayat members and review the Jyoti Bishnu Cultural Complex, a 5,000-seat auditorium.

The visit concludes with the launch of the birth centenary celebrations of Assam’s first non-Congress chief minister, Golap Borbora, before Shah returns to New Delhi.
