Amit Shah To Launch Land Port Management System For Integrated Border Management

Amit Shah launches digital system to modernise India’s land ports.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday launched the Land Port Management System (LPMS), a new digital platform aimed at modernising and integrating India’s land border operations into a unified, technology-driven framework. The initiative is part of the government’s broader push to strengthen smart border management, improve trade facilitation, and enhance national security through digital infrastructure.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said the LPMS is designed as a state-of-the-art system that will bring land ports on par with digital frameworks already in use at airports and seaports. The platform enables real-time exchange of logistics and regulatory data, allowing for smoother coordination between multiple agencies involved in cross-border movement of goods and passengers.

Officials stated that the system introduces end-to-end digital workflows for cargo and passenger processing. This includes features such as slot booking, online payments, shipment tracking, and single-window clearances. By reducing manual intervention and delays, the platform is expected to significantly improve efficiency and transparency at India’s international land ports.

The system is also integrated with key national digital infrastructures, including the Indian Customs Electronic Data Interchange Gateway (ICEGATE), the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP), and the motor vehicle ecosystem. This interoperability is intended to ensure seamless coordination among government agencies and private operators engaged in cross-border trade and transport activities.

On the occasion, the Home Minister also inaugurated newly developed stakeholder accommodation facilities at the Dawki land port in Meghalaya and the Srimantapur land port in Tripura. These facilities are expected to support personnel working at border locations and improve infrastructure for stakeholders involved in trade and security operations.

The Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI), which functions under the Ministry of Home Affairs, manages 15 land ports across India’s international borders, including key points along the borders with Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Myanmar. The government said the LPMS marks a significant step towards creating a “Viksit Bharat by 2047” vision by strengthening connectivity, trade efficiency and border governance through advanced digital systems.
