Amit Shah: Radhakrishnan's VP Tenure To Set Milestones

Shah lauds Radhakrishnan's tenure to elevate parliamentary democracy.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah met with C. P. Radhakrishnan shortly after his election as India's Vice President on Tuesday, offering congratulations and expressing confidence that Radhakrishnan's tenure would set new benchmarks in parliamentary democracy. Radhakrishnan secured 452 votes in the vice presidential election, defeating opposition candidate B. Sudershan Reddy, who received 300 votes. In a post on X, Shah described the meeting as an opportunity to extend best wishes, emphasising that Radhakrishnan's leadership would elevate the standards of political discourse and strengthen democratic institutions.

During the interaction, Shah highlighted Radhakrishnan's grassroots background and administrative expertise, stating that these qualities would help advance India's parliamentary system. "Called on C. P. Radhakrishnan Ji. Congratulated him on his victory and extended heartfelt best wishes for his upcoming tenure, which will certainly set new milestones in parliamentary democracy," Shah wrote on X. He further noted that Radhakrishnan's sagacity and profound knowledge would serve the marginalised and bring out the best in the country's governance.

Earlier in the day, Shah had publicly congratulated Radhakrishnan, underscoring his belief that the new vice president's experience would foster positive changes in the Upper House. "I firmly believe that Radhakrishnan's sagacity as a leader who has risen from the grassroots of society and profound knowledge about administration will help the country in bringing out the best in its parliamentary democracy," Shah said in his statement. This reflects the government's optimism about Radhakrishnan's role as the custodian of the Rajya Sabha's sanctity.
