Amit Shah Hails BJP’s Bengal Win as Ideological Milestone; Names Suvendu Adhikari CM
Amit Shah praises Suvendu Adhikari, criticises Mamata Banerjee, calling BJP’s Bengal victory an ideological milestone.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday launched a sharp political attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, asserting that she was defeated “in her own home turf” in Bhabanipur. His remarks came in Kolkata after the Bharatiya Janata Party formally announced Suvendu Adhikari as its Chief Ministerial face following the party’s electoral victory in the state.
Shah, while addressing party leaders and supporters, said the BJP’s win in West Bengal marked a historic ideological shift. He claimed that the party had finally succeeded in firmly establishing its organisational base in the state after decades of political struggle. He added that the electoral mandate reflected public support for the BJP’s governance model and ideological vision.
Taking a direct swipe at Mamata Banerjee, Shah said, “Didi, iss baar Suvendu Da ne aapke ghar mein aakar aapko haraya hai,” referring to her political stronghold. He used the remark to highlight what he described as a symbolic defeat of the ruling leadership in its own core constituency, suggesting a significant shift in voter sentiment in the state.

Shah further stated that Bengal’s cultural and political identity had been influenced by what he termed as external ideological forces for several decades. He said it was now the responsibility of the BJP to restore and strengthen the legacy of figures like Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Swami Vivekananda. He added that the party’s journey in Bengal was part of a long ideological struggle spanning nearly a century.
He also linked the BJP’s victory in West Bengal to broader national political developments, including the abrogation of Article 370, saying that party workers had long felt the absence of a strong presence in the state. Shah credited the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for strengthening the party’s position and fulfilling long-standing organisational goals.
The announcement of Suvendu Adhikari as the BJP legislature party leader sets the stage for his swearing-in as Chief Minister. The ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata, with top BJP and NDA leaders expected to attend, marking a major political transition in the state.
