Amit Shah: Congress Opened Borders for Bangladeshis, All Will Be Deported

HM Amit Shah promises strict measures to curb illegal immigration and boost border village development in Assam.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday accused the Congress of “opening the borders” to Bangladeshis during their tenure, compromising national security for vote-bank politics. Speaking at Nathanpur in Assam’s Cachar district, he assured that all illegal migrants who entered under Congress rule would be identified and deported.

Shah emphasized that the BJP-led government is committed to safeguarding India’s borders and protecting the cultural and demographic identity of Assam and other northeastern states. He criticized the previous government for ignoring the challenges faced by border communities.

During his visit, the Home Minister inaugurated the second phase of the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP-2) in Nathanpur. The initiative aims to improve infrastructure, connectivity, livelihoods, and access to essential services in border villages, reducing migration and strengthening security.

Highlighting the successes of VVP’s first phase, Shah noted improvements in road connectivity, healthcare, education, and employment opportunities in strategically important border areas. VVP-2 will expand these benefits to a larger number of villages across the region.

Shah reaffirmed that the Centre would prioritize development and security in Assam and the entire Northeast, ensuring border communities are integrated into India’s broader growth agenda while addressing the challenges of illegal immigration.
