‘All Issues Settled’: Ajit Pawar Says Pawar Family Rift Finally Resolved

Ajit Pawar announces end to family tensions, signals broader unity ahead.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has declared a complete resolution to the high-profile family and political rift within the Pawar clan, asserting that all internal tensions have been amicably settled and that grassroots workers from both factions of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) are eagerly pushing for a comprehensive reunification in the near future.

Ajit Pawar emphasized the overwhelming sentiment among party cadres for unity, stating that the two NCPs have already begun functioning collaboratively, marking a significant departure from the acrimonious split that occurred in July 2023 when he led a vertical division and aligned his group with the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Maharashtra.

The original NCP, established in 1999 by veteran leader Sharad Pawar as a breakaway from the Congress, suffered a major setback with the rebellion, resulting in Ajit Pawar's faction securing legal recognition of the party name and the traditional 'clock' election symbol from the Election Commission, while Sharad Pawar's loyalists were allotted the new designation NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) along with a 'man blowing trumpet' symbol following prolonged hearings.

As a tangible first step toward reconciliation, both factions have formally agreed to contest the forthcoming Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation elections as a united front, a decision driven entirely by persistent appeals from local workers who have repeatedly voiced concerns over divided votes weakening the party's position against rivals in this key industrial belt near Pune.

Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule, Sharad Pawar's daughter and Ajit Pawar's cousin, corroborated the development for the local body polls, attributing it solely to ground-level demands, while categorically ruling out any immediate discussions on extending the alliance to state-level politics or rumours of NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) joining the BJP-led Mahayuti government, dismissing ministerial berth speculations as baseless chatter.
