Akhilesh Yadav, Rahul Gandhi Accuse Modi-Govt of Surrendering India’s Foreign Policy To US

Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi accuse Modi government of letting US influence India’s foreign policy.

Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday criticised the Central government’s foreign policy, saying it is “being guided by the White House,” following remarks by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on the same issue. Both leaders raised concerns over India’s diplomatic stance amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

Yadav, in a post on X, asserted that India’s foreign policy “is no longer serving India’s interests but is being guided by signals from the White House.” He added, “A compromised Prime Minister can never lead a self-respecting nation. Modi has pawned the nation’s pride to foreign powers.”

Earlier, Gandhi described Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign policy as a personal agenda. Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, he called it “a universal joke” and said, “If the Prime Minister is compromised, our foreign policy is also compromised.” He also criticised Modi’s Lok Sabha speech, calling it “irrelevant” and warned of potential economic fallout affecting sectors such as LPG, petrol, and fertilisers due to the West Asia situation.

Gandhi further accused the Prime Minister of prioritising the interests of the U.S. and Israel over India, stating, “PM Modi will do whatever America and Israel ask him to. He can never make decisions in India’s interest.”

In response, Prime Minister Modi addressed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, asserting that India’s economy remains resilient and that the government is taking “continuous efforts” to mitigate the impact of the West Asia conflict. “This present problem has shaken the economy of the entire world. Continuous efforts are underway to ensure that it has minimal side effects on India. Our economy’s fundamentals are strong, and the government is keeping a close watch on the changing situation,” he said.

He added that the government is strategising to address short-term, medium-term, and long-term consequences of the crisis, signalling a proactive approach to maintain economic stability amid global uncertainty.
