AIMIM Fights for Voter Rights as Owaisi Seeks Clear Standards and Inclusive Electoral Process in Telangana

Owaisi demands transparency and voter assistance in Telangana electoral roll revision exercise scheduled June-July

Leaders of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) on Saturday met Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) C. Sudharshan Reddy and submitted a representation seeking greater transparency, voter assistance and procedural clarity in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The delegation, led by AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, urged election authorities to adopt measures that would make the revision process more accessible and voter-friendly.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Asaduddin Owaisi said the party had raised concerns regarding the extensive pre-enumeration exercise already carried out by election officials. He noted that lakhs of voters had reportedly been mapped during the exercise and argued that the information collected should be shared with recognised Booth Level Agents (BLAs). According to him, access to this data would enable BLAs to better assist voters during the enumeration process conducted by Booth Level Officers (BLOs).

The AIMIM delegation also called on the Election Commission to provide pre-filled enumeration forms containing information available from both the 2002 and 2025 electoral rolls. Owaisi said such a move would reduce the workload for voters and election staff during the house-to-house enumeration exercise scheduled from June 25 to July 24. He maintained that voters should not be required to repeatedly furnish details that are already available with the Election Commission.

Another key demand raised by the party concerned language accessibility. AIMIM requested that enumeration forms be made available in English and Urdu in addition to Telugu. The party argued that English is widely used in official communication throughout Telangana, while Urdu enjoys the status of the state's second official language and is commonly spoken by a significant section of the population.

The delegation further sought the introduction of a clear Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to deal with issues that may arise during voter verification. These include discrepancies in names, age-related mismatches, family-linking concerns and other anomalies that could affect voter registration. AIMIM also requested broader acceptance of government-issued documents for identity and address verification purposes.

Emphasising the importance of inclusivity in the electoral process, Owaisi said the party wanted clarity regarding procedures for voters whose names may be missing from the latest electoral rolls. He stressed that the revision exercise should remain transparent, efficient and accessible, ensuring that eligible voters do not face unnecessary difficulties in securing or retaining their place on the electoral register. The representation reflects AIMIM's push for a smoother and more accountable voter verification process ahead of future elections.
