AIMIM Charges Candidates Rs 3000 Fee for Telangana Civic Polls

AIMIM requires Rs 3,000 non-refundable fee from candidates applying for Telangana municipal elections.

Hyderabad-based AIMIM, led by Asaduddin Owaisi, has begun preparations for the upcoming Telangana municipal elections, expected to be held in mid-February. The party has invited aspirants to apply for tickets but has drawn attention for mandating a non-refundable application fee of ₹3,000. Interested candidates must submit the amount via demand draft along with their nomination forms.

According to party instructions, the application process will be tightly controlled. AIMIM has directed town presidents to collect completed forms and drafts and forward them to the party headquarters in Hyderabad. The party has clearly stated that incomplete applications will be rejected and no candidate names will be announced prematurely.

AIMIM leadership has clarified that the final list of candidates will be announced only after the scrutiny process is completed. Party president Asaduddin Owaisi will formally declare the candidates, ensuring centralised decision-making and discipline within the party ranks ahead of the high-stakes polls.

The Telangana municipal elections will cover nearly 3,000 wards across 117 municipalities and six municipal corporations. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is expected to be the key battleground, with voter lists already published as part of election preparations.

In the last GHMC elections, the then-ruling BRS emerged as the single largest party, followed closely by the BJP and AIMIM. The BJP, in particular, surprised observers by significantly improving its tally through an aggressive campaign led by top national leaders, though it fell short of winning control of the civic body.

Since then, Telangana’s political landscape has changed considerably. The BRS lost power in the 2023 Assembly elections, while Congress formed the government under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. AIMIM has since moved closer to Congress, supporting it in key by-elections—most notably in Jubilee Hills—signalling shifting alliances and a fiercely competitive contest ahead in urban Telangana.
