AIADMK Releases Second List for TN Assembly Polls, Finalizing Key Contests

AIADMK announces second list of Tamil Nadu candidates.

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Friday released its second list of candidates for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, as it steps up preparations to challenge the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government and lead the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the southern state. The freshly unveiled list includes 127 names, bringing the total number of declared nominees by the party to 150 so far.

The second list was formally released by AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, who also heads the party’s campaign effort. This follows an initial announcement of 23 candidates earlier in the week. The inclusion of 127 additional contenders covers a broad range of constituencies across Tamil Nadu, reflecting the party’s strategy to contest a large portion of the state’s 234 seats as part of the NDA’s seat‑sharing agreement.

Among the newly added names are several incumbent legislators and senior party figures, indicating an attempt by the AIADMK to balance experience with fresh faces in its electoral lineup. With the party contesting the majority of seats allotted to it under the alliance deal, the second list represents a major step toward finalising the AIADMK’s battle plan for the April 23 elections.

The DMK, which leads the incumbent government in Tamil Nadu, reacted to the announcement with criticism, suggesting that the list reveals internal rifts and strategic conflicts within the AIADMK ranks. Opposition leaders have pointed to the candidate selection as evidence of factional disagreements, though the AIADMK leadership maintains that the process reflects careful planning and broad consultation within the party.

The Tamil Nadu polls are widely viewed as a critical contest, with the DMK seeking to retain power after its decisive victory in the previous assembly elections, and the AIADMK aiming to regain ground as the principal opposition force. With seat allocations in place and candidates now largely confirmed, both major parties and their alliance partners are intensifying campaign activities across urban and rural constituencies.

As the election date approaches, political analysts are closely watching how the AIADMK’s choice of candidates will influence voter sentiment, especially in key regions where local issues, caste dynamics, and alliance strengths could determine crucial outcomes. The party’s second list solidifies its electoral offer and sets the stage for an intense phase of campaigning ahead of polling.
