Adityanath Blames Opposition for Turning UP Into BIMARU
Adityanath accuses opposition of ruining UP’s economic progress.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a scathing attack on “dishonest political parties” on August 27, 2025, blaming their corruption, nepotism, and divisive politics for turning the state into a BIMARU (backward) region. Speaking at Lok Bhavan in Lucknow while distributing appointment letters to 2,425 chief sevikas and 13 pharmacists selected by the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission, Adityanath highlighted his government’s efforts to restore transparency and opportunity since 2017.
“Before 2017, recruitment was plagued by favoritism and corruption, leaving qualified candidates sidelined,” Adityanath said, contrasting the past with the current transparent hiring process. He noted that Uttar Pradesh, which contributed 14% to India’s economy from 1947 to 1960, saw its share plummet below 8% by 2017 due to decades of mismanagement. “Riots, family-centric politics, and loot turned UP into a den of corruption,” he charged, attributing the state’s decline to opposition parties’ policies post-1990.
Adityanath emphasized that his administration has revitalized opportunities for the youth, with fair recruitment processes offering “golden opportunities for employment.” Congratulating the new appointees, he underscored the government’s duty to nurture talent, likening the role of chief sevikas to Yashoda nurturing Lord Krishna, vital for building a healthy and prosperous future.

Addressing opposition criticism over school mergers, Adityanath dismissed it as “negativity,” explaining that consolidating schools aligns with the National Education Policy to improve pupil-teacher ratios and infrastructure. Over 5,000 pre-primary and Bal Vatika centers have been established, utilizing previously empty classrooms.
The CM outlined significant strides in women’s empowerment, noting that 40,000 women have joined the police force since 2017, compared to just 10,000 from 1947 to 2017. Additionally, 1.56 lakh teachers, mostly women, have been recruited, and schemes like the Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana have supported over 26 lakh girls with Rs 25,000 each. Health improvements were also highlighted, with National Family Health Survey data showing declines in anaemia (5.1%), stunting (6.6%), and low weight (7.4%) among women, alongside reduced infant mortality (38 per 1,000) and maternal mortality (197 per 100,000).
Adityanath also detailed departmental reforms, including the promotion of 19,424 Anganwadi workers, 3,000 assistants, and the upgrading of 22,290 mini Anganwadi centers with real-time smartphone monitoring. “Our intention is clear: make Uttar Pradesh a strong, empowered state,” he told the appointees, urging them to serve with dedication to realize the vision of a developed India by 2047.
