India Condemns Pakistan's Strikes In Afghanistan, Terms Them Blatant Act Of Aggression

India has strongly condemned Pakistan's recent airstrikes in Afghanistan, describing them as a "blatant act of aggression" and warning that the strikes pose a direct threat to regional peace and stability. In a statement issued on Monday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) criticised Islamabad for carrying out airstrikes on Afghan territory during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, saying the attacks resulted in civilian casualties, including women and children.

According to the Taliban-led government in Kabul, Pakistan's strikes targeted three eastern Afghan provinces, killing 36 civilians and injuring 163 others. Afghan authorities accused Islamabad of carrying out "double tap" attacks, alleging that follow-up strikes hit the same locations after initial bombardments, worsening civilian casualties. Kabul has consistently denied Pakistan's allegations that militants responsible for attacks inside Pakistan operate from Afghan territory.

Pakistan, however, defended the operation, saying it had targeted militant hideouts linked to the deadly weekend assault in Karachi. Pakistani officials claimed that 29 militants were killed in the strikes and maintained that the operation was aimed at eliminating those responsible for cross-border terrorism. Afghan authorities have rejected these claims, insisting that their territory is not being used to launch attacks against neighbouring countries.

In its statement, India said the airstrikes represented a violation of Afghanistan's sovereignty and reflected what it called Pakistan's recurring pattern of resorting to military action beyond its borders. "This blatant act of aggression by Pakistan is an assault on Afghanistan's sovereignty and a direct threat to regional peace and stability. It reflects Pakistan's persistent pattern of reckless behaviour and its futile attempt to externalise internal failures through desperate acts of violence beyond its borders," the MEA said.

The latest exchange has further strained already fragile relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which have witnessed repeated tensions over border security and allegations of cross-border militancy. The incident also raises concerns about the broader security situation in the region, with India emphasising the need to respect national sovereignty and avoid actions that could further destabilise South Asia.
