Yathindra Siddaramaiah Confirms Ministerial Assurance as DK Shivakumar Prepares for June 3 Oath

Siddaramaiah's son and several Congress MLAs seek ministerial posts in Shivakumar's new cabinet.

The formation of Karnataka's new government has triggered intense lobbying within the Congress, with several leaders emerging as contenders for ministerial positions ahead of the swearing-in of Chief Minister-designate DK Shivakumar. Among the prominent aspirants is Yathindra Siddaramaiah, son of former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who has expressed confidence about securing a place in the new cabinet following assurances from the party leadership.

Speaking to the media, Yathindra Siddaramaiah, currently a Member of the Legislative Council, said he remains hopeful of being inducted into the cabinet. He stated that the Congress high command had assured him of a ministerial berth, though he added that no decision had been communicated regarding any possible role within the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). His remarks come as the party works to balance regional, caste, and political considerations while finalizing the composition of the new ministry.

Several other Congress leaders have also openly declared their aspirations. MLA Basavaraj Shivannavar said he has been seeking a ministerial position for the past three years and hopes to be accommodated in the new government. He emphasized the need for representation from the North Karnataka region and indicated that leaders from his community are expecting inclusion in the ministry, even if not during the first phase of cabinet expansion.

The developments follow the Congress party's decision last week to implement a leadership transition in Karnataka, ending months of speculation and internal discussions over the state's top post. DK Shivakumar is scheduled to take the oath as chief minister on June 3, marking a significant shift in the state's political leadership. The transition is expected to bring a new administrative team while maintaining continuity within the ruling party.

Reacting to his elevation, Shivakumar described himself as a disciplined Congress worker who has risen through the ranks of the organization. He highlighted his long association with the party, dating back to his student leadership days in the 1980s, and said party workers and supporters were pleased to see a grassroots Congress leader assume the state's highest executive office.

While the chief minister-designate has been confirmed, the Congress leadership has yet to announce the full list of ministers who will be sworn in alongside him. Party sources indicate that discussions are underway regarding a possible multiple deputy chief minister arrangement. Reports suggest that the leadership is considering representation from key social groups, including Dalit and minority communities, as it seeks to strike a balance between political interests and social inclusivity in the new Karnataka cabinet.
