Former Karnataka DGP Murdered by Wife in Bengaluru, Police Allege Chilli Powder Attack
Bamgaluru woke up to some shocking news this morning. Former Karnataka DGP Om Prakash was found murdered in his house.
Now, the police has revealed a further shock that Pallavi, the wife of former Karnataka DGP, has been detained as the prime suspect in his brutal murder. The 1981-batch IPS officer, aged 68, was found dead in a pool of blood at his residence in Bengaluru’s upscale HSR Layout on Sunday, April 20, 2025. Pallavi allegedly threw chilli powder in Prakash’s face before stabbing him multiple times, leading to his death.
According to investigators, the murder followed a heated argument, reportedly linked to a property dispute over land in Dandeli, Karnataka. Sources claim Pallavi, who has a history of mental health issues, including a schizophrenia diagnosis, attacked Prakash after disabling him with chilli powder. Post-murder, she allegedly made a video call to a friend, declaring, “I have killed the monster.” The couple’s daughter, Kriti, has also been detained for questioning, though her role remains unclear.

The case has exposed a troubled domestic history, with sources noting frequent disputes between Prakash and Pallavi. Months earlier, Pallavi had staged a sit-in protest outside HSR Layout police station after authorities declined to register her complaint, the nature of which remains undisclosed.
Prakash, a native of Champaran, Bihar, and a Geology master’s degree holder, served as Karnataka’s DGP from March 2015 until his retirement.
Known for his robust policing, his death has stunned the state’s law enforcement community. Police are reviewing forensic evidence and witness statements to build a watertight case, as Bengaluru grapples with the high-profile crime.
