West Bengal Expected to Release Updated Voter List By March 27–28

West Bengal likely releases second supplementary voter list soon.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) is expected to publish the second supplementary voter list for West Bengal under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls by March 27–28, election officials said, as part of finalising the updated voter database ahead of the April assembly polls.

This second supplementary list will follow the first, which was released earlier this week and contains names of electors cleared after adjudication of pending claims and objections. The supplementary lists are a key component of the SIR process, intended to ensure eligible voters whose entries were initially “under adjudication” are properly added to the final electoral roll.

The SIR exercise — ordered by the ECI and overseen by judicial officers appointed by the Calcutta High Court — has reviewed millions of voter entries that were flagged during the draft roll publication, aiming to verify eligibility and documentation. So far, a large number of claims have been processed, with details still being finalised for inclusion in the forthcoming supplementary list.

The updated rolls will be crucial for the 2026 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election, scheduled in two phases in late April. The electoral revision process has been closely watched by political parties and voters alike, due to the high stakes involved and concerns over inclusion and exclusion of names following the SIR review.

While the exact timing may vary slightly, civic officials and the Election Commission have signalled confidence that publication will proceed on schedule around March 27–28 to allow voters sufficient time to verify their entries and file any necessary appeals before the election notification period begins.

The release of the second supplementary list is also expected to address ongoing issues related to judiciary adjudication cases and to further clarify the electoral status of tens of thousands of electors whose registrations were previously unresolved.
