US Slams LeT Proxy TRF as Terrorist Group After Deadly Pahalgam Attack!

The US designates The Resistance Front (TRF), a Lashkar-e-Taiba offshoot, as a terrorist organization for its role in the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians.

The United States has officially branded The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) following its involvement in the devastating April 22 Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the designation on Thursday, emphasizing the Trump administration’s resolve to combat terrorism and deliver justice for the victims.

The Pahalgam attack, the deadliest on Indian civilians since the 2008 Mumbai attacks by LeT, was initially claimed by TRF, though the group later retracted its statement amid escalating India-Pakistan tensions. India’s National Investigation Agency identified TRF leader Sheikh Sajjad Gul as the mastermind behind the assault. Rubio noted that TRF, now added to LeT’s FTO and SDGT designations under Section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act and Executive Order 13224, has also targeted Indian security forces, including attacks in 2024.

India responded to the attack with Operation Sindoor on May 7, striking nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. In a global diplomatic push, Indian delegations visited 33 capitals, including Washington, to highlight Pakistan’s links to terrorism. The US designation strengthens counter-terrorism efforts, signaling robust US-India cooperation against regional threats.
