UP Judge Threatened Inside Courtroom: Convicted Murderers Say "We Will Come For You"

Two murder convicts threatened a Bijnor judge after receiving life imprisonment sentences in court.

A district court judge in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, was allegedly threatened inside the courtroom by two convicts moments after they were sentenced to life imprisonment in a murder case. Additional District Judge Nijendra Kumar had just delivered the verdict against Pintu Chauhan and Jaideep when the men reportedly issued an open warning. According to officials, the convicts told the judge, "We will come for you,” and claimed they knew his home address and native village, prompting immediate concern over judicial security.

The incident occurred after the court found the two men guilty of killing a man by repeatedly running him over with a vehicle. The crime stemmed from a family dispute, and the judge had concluded proceedings by awarding life imprisonment to both accused. Instead of accepting the sentence quietly, the convicts allegedly responded with threats directed at the presiding judge in full view of those present in the courtroom.

Following the incident, Judge Kumar formally wrote to the Uttar Pradesh home secretary, the state’s director general of police, the Bijnor superintendent of police, and the district judge, seeking appropriate action and protection. The communication highlighted the seriousness of the threats and the potential risk posed to his personal safety. Authorities have acknowledged receiving information about the episode and have begun looking into the matter.

According to advocate Ritesh Chauhan, the case was linked to a prolonged family dispute. The complainant, identified as Renu, alleged that her sister-in-law Anjali was married to Jaideep’s elder brother and had filed multiple cases against Jaideep’s family. The conflict escalated when the accused allegedly reached Anjali’s village, Matoora, and forcibly dragged her father from a field before running him over multiple times, causing his death on the spot.

The sentencing brought legal closure to the murder trial, but the alleged threats have raised fresh concerns about courtroom security and the safety of judicial officers. Police officials said they have taken note of the incident and are examining the circumstances under which the threats were made. Further action is expected based on the findings of the preliminary inquiry, as authorities assess whether additional security measures are required.
