Unlicensed Hyderabad Samosa Unit Busted for Stale Ingredients, Reused Oil and Zero Safety Clearances
The 73-year-old operator had no FSSAI licence and used substandard ingredients unfit for human consumption.
A large illegal food unit manufacturing samosas in highly unhygienic conditions was busted in Hyderabad, raising serious concerns over food safety and public health. The raid was carried out on March 20 by the Hyderabad Food Adulteration Surveillance Team (H-FAST) along with local police in the Jiyaguda area.
Officials said the unit was operating without mandatory licences and basic safety clearances. The facility, allegedly run by Abdul Rasheed, did not possess a valid FSSAI licence, trade licence, or fire safety approval, making its operations illegal under food safety regulations.
During the inspection, authorities found that the samosas were being prepared using spoiled and substandard ingredients, including stale boiled eggs and repeatedly reused cooking oil. Investigators warned that such practices pose significant health risks, especially given the widespread consumption of street foods like samosas.

The team also seized a large quantity of adulterated food items, raw materials, and machinery valued at around ₹5 lakh. The confiscated items included ready-to-sell samosas, maida, sweet corn, and other ingredients used in large-scale preparation at the facility.
Officials described the conditions inside the unit as “grossly unhygienic,” noting that the setup failed to meet even basic food safety and hygiene standards required for food production units.
Authorities said further action will be taken as per law, and emphasised the need for stricter monitoring to prevent such illegal operations that endanger public health.
