Two Patna Police Personnel Suspended After Viral Video Shows Assault on Motorcyclist
Patna Police suspends two officers for assaulting biker in viral video.
Patna Police on Monday announced the immediate suspension of two personnel following the circulation of a highly disturbing video that depicted officers assaulting and verbally abusing a motorcyclist on the six-lane Ganga Bridge in Bihar. The incident, which occurred on 14 November 2025, rapidly escalated into a major public controversy after the footage was widely shared across social media platforms, prompting intense criticism of law enforcement conduct and renewed debates about police accountability in the state.
The video, captured from the biker’s helmet-mounted action camera and first uploaded by a user identified as Utkarsh Mishra, clearly showed Sub-Inspector Devkant Bunty and constable Vishwanath Kumar, both attached to Nadi Police Station, stopping the youth at a routine checkpoint. Without apparent provocation, the officers were seen hurling obscene abuses, slapping the biker repeatedly, and threatening further violence. Mishra’s accompanying post described the episode as a “clear misuse of power” and demanded immediate suspension of the involved personnel, a call that was echoed by thousands of users within hours.
In a detailed official statement released on X on 17 November 2025, Patna Police confirmed that a preliminary inquiry had verified the authenticity of the video and the identity of the officers. The department condemned the actions as displaying “negligence towards duty, arbitrariness, gross indiscipline, and violation of orders from senior officials.” Acting swiftly to contain the fallout, authorities placed both Sub-Inspector Devkant Bunty and P.T.C./3738 Vishwanath Kumar under suspension with immediate effect, while indicating that departmental proceedings would follow.

Despite the punitive measures against the officers, Patna Police simultaneously revealed that the motorcyclist and his companions had been engaged in dangerous stunt biking on the bridge prior to the confrontation. A challan of ₹7,000 was issued against the youth’s vehicle under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. Authorities cited a recorded “confessional statement” in which the biker reportedly acknowledged the life-threatening nature of such stunts, admitted the risk to himself and other road users, and promised never to indulge in similar activities again, thereby attempting to present a balanced version of events.
The controversy deepened when a second video surfaced online, purportedly showing an individual claiming to represent the police contacting the biker and pressuring him to delete the original incriminating footage under threat of arrest and fabricated criminal cases. This development triggered fresh outrage among netizens, with many accusing the department of attempting to suppress evidence even after announcing disciplinary action. As the episode continues to trend, it has reignited broader discussions about power dynamics between citizens and law enforcement in Bihar.
