Telangana DGP Shivadhar Reddy Retires After 32 Years, Appointed State Security Advisor
Outgoing Telangana DGP Shivadhar Reddy retires after 32 years and is appointed state security advisor.
Outgoing Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Battula Shivadhar Reddy on Thursday said he felt “honoured” to have led what he described as a progressive, efficient, and technology-driven police force. The senior IPS officer retired from service on April 30 after completing a 32-year-long career in policing, marking the occasion with a farewell parade held at the Telangana Police Academy in Hyderabad.
Addressing the gathering, Shivadhar Reddy said his tenure in the police department had been filled with “memorable experiences” and significant learning. He noted that during his brief seven-month stint as the state’s top police officer, he received strong cooperation from personnel at all levels, ranging from Home Guards to senior IPS officers. He also credited the public of Telangana for their support in maintaining law and order across the state.
The outgoing DGP highlighted the evolution of the police force over the past few decades, saying that there had been a “sea change” in its functioning and approach. He specifically pointed to the adoption of friendly policing initiatives aimed at reducing the gap between law enforcement agencies and citizens. According to him, these reforms have helped improve public trust and accessibility of the police system.

Shivadhar Reddy also expressed gratitude to his colleagues through a post on social media platform X, where he thanked the police force for their “dedication, commitment, and service in maintaining peace and public safety.” He expressed hope that Telangana would continue to progress with peace, harmony, and strong law-and-order systems in place.
Following his retirement, the state government appointed him as the State Security Advisor. Meanwhile, senior IPS officer C. V. Anand has been named as the new Director General of Police. Officials noted that Shivadhar Reddy’s leadership experience, particularly in intelligence and field policing, contributed significantly to his long administrative career.
During his address, Anand also praised the outgoing DGP for his distinguished service, noting his contributions in areas affected by left-wing extremism and his role in facilitating the surrender of several Maoist cadres, including senior leaders. Shivadhar Reddy’s career included key postings across districts and specialised wings, as well as a stint with the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, reflecting a wide range of domestic and international policing experience.
