Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday during his first official visit to the national capital after assuming office. The meeting marks the first formal engagement between the newly elected state leadership and the Prime Minister following the formation of the TVK-led government in Tamil Nadu.

According to official sources, the meeting took place at Seva Teerth and lasted for around 30 minutes. During the discussions, both leaders are understood to have focused on issues related to state development, central assistance, and ongoing coordination between the Centre and Tamil Nadu government. The Prime Minister’s Office also shared images of the meeting on social media, confirming the interaction.

The visit comes as part of CM Vijay’s broader Delhi itinerary, which includes meetings with senior Union ministers and other top constitutional functionaries. As part of his schedule, he is also expected to hold discussions with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, along with other political leaders during his stay in the capital.

Reports indicate that Vijay is likely to submit a detailed memorandum to the Centre outlining Tamil Nadu’s key demands. These are expected to include infrastructure expansion projects, financial allocations, pending GST compensation dues, and support for ongoing welfare and development schemes in the state. Fishermen’s safety and inter-state water disputes are also believed to be among the issues raised during the discussions.

In addition to political and administrative engagements, the Chief Minister’s visit also carries cultural significance. He is expected to participate in events highlighting Tamil heritage, including the unveiling of a statue of poet-saint Thiruvalluvar at Jawaharlal Nehru University. The visit is being seen as an important early step in establishing the working relationship between the new state government and the Centre.
