Swedish Founder Emailed Tim Cook a Thank-You Note. He Replied

Swedish startup founder Melvin Hagberg received an unexpected response after sending a thank-you email to Apple Executive Chairman Tim Cook. Hagberg had written to Cook to express his admiration for the former Apple CEO and his leadership of the technology giant, without expecting a reply. Cook responded to the message within four days, prompting Hagberg to share the exchange publicly on X.

Hagberg posted a screenshot showing the email conversation, which was sent from his Scape email account with the subject line “Thank you for everything”. In his message, he praised Cook’s leadership and said he had “massive respect” for him as a CEO and for what he had accomplished at Apple. Hagberg also described Cook as a major inspiration and thanked him for his contribution to the company.

Cook replied with a short but warm message, writing, “I appreciate your very kind note. Thanks so much.” Hagberg later shared the exchange with the caption, “I emailed Tim Cook last week. He replied. You can literally just email people.” The post attracted significant attention online and crossed 4.7 million views, with several users praising Cook for personally responding to a message from a startup founder.

The interaction comes shortly after Cook moved out of his long-standing position as Apple’s chief executive. Cook became CEO in August 2011, succeeding Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, and led the company for 15 years before taking on the role of Executive Chairman. Apple has said that Cook will continue working with the company in certain areas, including engagement with policymakers around the world.

During Cook’s tenure as CEO, Apple expanded beyond its traditional product categories with launches including the Apple Watch, AirPods, HomePod and Vision Pro. The company also grew its services business through offerings such as Apple Music and Apple TV. Under his leadership, Apple experienced a substantial increase in its market valuation, growing from about $350 billion when he became CEO to more than $4.5 trillion.
