Six Security Personnel Killed And Eight Abducted In Pakistan Militant Attack

Militants kill six and abduct eight security personnel Pakistan

At least six paramilitary personnel were killed and eight others abducted after militants from the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) attacked a security checkpoint in northwestern Pakistan, security officials said on Tuesday. According to security sources, dozens of armed militants stormed the checkpoint in Peshawar on Monday using firearms, hand grenades and mortar shells. The attackers targeted personnel of the Federal Constabulary (FC), a paramilitary force that plays a key role in frontline security operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which borders Afghanistan.

A security official, speaking on condition of anonymity as they were not authorised to brief the media, said the assault was carried out in a coordinated manner by a large group of militants. The attackers overpowered the checkpoint and inflicted heavy casualties before fleeing the area. In a separate statement, another security official confirmed that six FC personnel were killed in the attack, while four others sustained injuries. The official further said that the militants abducted eight personnel and transported them to an undisclosed location, raising concerns over their safety and the scale of the assault.

The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan later claimed responsibility for the attack and posted an image on its social media channels showing the abducted personnel. The group has intensified its operations in Pakistan’s western regions in recent months, particularly in areas bordering Afghanistan. Pakistan’s military has not yet issued an official statement in response to the incident. However, security forces have launched search and clearance operations in the surrounding areas, with additional reinforcements deployed to track down the attackers and recover the abducted personnel.

The latest attack comes amid a broader surge in militant violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where security forces have faced repeated assaults by insurgent groups. Officials say the region remains a key hotspot for cross-border militancy, with ongoing concerns about militant movement along the porous border with Afghanistan. Last month, militants carried out a series of coordinated attacks in the province that left 26 people dead, further escalating security challenges for Pakistani authorities.

The situation has also contributed to rising tensions between Islamabad and Kabul, with Pakistan accusing Afghan territory of being used as a safe haven for militants—an allegation the Taliban-led government in Afghanistan has repeatedly denied. Diplomatic relations between the two neighbours have deteriorated in recent months, marked by heightened rhetoric and cross-border incidents, including Pakistani airstrikes inside Afghan territory. Security analysts say the latest attack underscores the continuing volatility in the region and the persistent threat posed by militant groups operating along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
