38 charged including cleric for mob violence.

A recent chargesheet filed by Uttar Pradesh Police has revealed that a hostile mob attacked law enforcement teams and raised provocative "sar tan se juda" (beheading) slogans under the alleged directions of prominent cleric Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan during the violent clashes in Bareilly on September 26, 2025.

The latest chargesheet, submitted in a case registered at Baradari police station, names 38 individuals as accused, with Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan, president of the Ittehad-e-Millat Council (IMC), designated as the primary instigator alongside others including Mohammad Azam, Farhat Khan, Moin Khan, Umed, Mustaqim, Arwaaz, Nazim Raza Khan, and Mohsin.

Superintendent of Police Manush Pareek confirmed that chargesheets have now been filed in 10 of the 12 cases stemming from the incident, involving over 100 accused persons in total, of whom 87 remain in judicial custody while investigations continue in the remaining two matters.

According to investigative findings detailed by Inspector Dhananjay Pandey, the unrest began when miscreants assaulted a patrolling police team near Shahdana Road, after which a larger crowd, responding to Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan's call, assembled and chanted the inflammatory slogans while attempting to proceed toward Islamia Maidan, leading to further confrontations at Shyamatganj Bridge involving approximately 200-250 individuals.

The violence erupted following Friday prayers when protesters, demonstrating against police actions regarding "I Love Muhammad" posters, clashed with authorities despite restrictions on gatherings, resulting in injuries to several police personnel and prompting the registration of multiple FIRs across various police stations in the city.
