Russia Urges US and Israel to Halt Iran Bombing: Calls For Return to Diplomacy

Russia urges the US and Israel to cease Iran strikes amid rising casualties and the oil crisis.

Russia has urged the United States and Israel to halt their military strikes on Iran and return to diplomatic negotiations as the conflict in West Asia continues to escalate. The appeal was made by Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, who warned that the ongoing hostilities were worsening an already severe humanitarian situation across the region. Zakharova described the escalation as “deeply worrying” and called for immediate steps to de-escalate tensions and restore diplomatic dialogue.

The war has entered its 13th day, with US and Israeli forces continuing strikes on multiple sites across Iran. Reports indicate that more than 1,300 people have been killed in the attacks, including Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The intensifying conflict has triggered widespread concern globally as the scale of military action grows and casualties rise across the region.

Iran has also launched retaliatory strikes targeting locations in several Gulf nations, including the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. The conflict has further escalated after Iran closed the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route for oil exports. The disruption has triggered a sharp surge in global crude prices and raised fears of an energy crisis as countries report tightening fuel supplies.

Russia’s call for diplomacy comes amid broader geopolitical tensions, including the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin recently held a lengthy phone conversation with US President Donald Trump to discuss the Iran conflict and possible paths to peace. Putin warned that the escalating crisis could threaten global energy security, while Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom said it would continue its work in Iran, including plans to build additional units at the Bushehr nuclear power plant despite the ongoing conflict.
